Kathy has been passionate about fitness from her very early years. At age 10, Kathy would rally all of the kids in the neighborhood to join her at 5am for body weight strength training and a run prior to swim team practice. Kathy feels very fortunate to have grown up in a home where healthy eating was the norm and wants to educate and encourage those around her to develop proper nutrition habits that result in feeling well and enjoying an active life.
Kathy earned her BS in Fitness Management from the University of Nevada Reno while competing as a distance swimmer on the UNR women’s team. Her coursework included: anatomy, exercise physiology, exercise science, kinesiology, functional anatomy and resistance training, group exercise, performance nutrition, principles of personal training, sport psychology, and strength training and conditioning. She recently completed her Masters in Education from Sierra Nevada University. Her platform for her masters project was active nutrition education embedded into physical education for middle school students. She will complete her personal training certification in 2022.
With experience in coaching children and young adults in a variety of sports, Kathy has also acquired 10 years of experience training for and competing in triathlons, including Ironman 2015. She trained under the direction of coach John Hansen of UC Davis Triathlon Team, helping her gain further experience and knowledge in multi-sport disciplines, flexibility, and core strength.
Kathy currently teaches physical education and sports medicine at a local middle school. She is the mother of five active children and has supported them through their sports and fitness activities for over 26 years. Her peer involvement with adults and seniors has been ongoing over the past 15 years as she has mentored adults through their weight loss, personal fitness and triathlon goals.
